dosccar_dalle.jpg  "IMPROVING SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATION IN THE CARIBBEAN"

The Caribbean region has a number of specific epidemiological features that represent major public health challenges.

Because of their geographical position, Caribbean islands and countries are prone to extreme climate conditions which are favourable for the development of emerging vector-borne diseases (Chikungunya, Dengue, Zika), as well as natural events such as earthquakes and hurricanes.

The burden of chronic diseases (obesity, diabetes, cancer) is increasingly heavy and the cause of significant morbidity.

An ageing population is another major concern for these regions, as well as a priority area for research, with real-life cohorts due to be set up in the coming years.

All these specific features highlight the importance of medical and scientific cooperation between Caribbean countries and the need for a concerted effort between political and scientific stakeholders in the field of health and research.

 team.jpg OUR MISSION:

“TO DEVELOP A COMMON SCIENTIFIC STRATEGY”

The Development of Scientific Cooperation and Clinical Research in the Caribbean (DOSCCAR) project aims to promote exchanges within the region's scientific community.

Through these horizontal partnerships, the goal is to strengthen regional capacities, improve public health and promote scientific progress.

DOSCCAR is firmly committed to its core mission :

==> To provide Caribbean nations with a crucial body of information that will foster scientific collaboration in the region.

Our first objective is to propose a bibliometric analysis presenting the scientific production, its impact, as well as the network of collaborations among Caribbean countries.

This analysis, designed like an inventory, will be structured around four major questions:

“REGIONAL COLLABORATION, GLOBAL THINKING”

This pooling of knowledge will enable the Caribbean region to contribute more actively to the production of global scientific knowledge.
